Personal Information:
Nikolay Zafirov was born on 15th March
1979 in Samokov, Bulgaria. He finished secondary school
in Samokov (1997) and completed his university studies in
the University of Forestry – Sofia. His Bachelor’s degree
(1997 – 2001) was on Forestry and his Master’s degree (2002
– 2003) was on Forest Protection, both in the Faculty of
Forestry.
N. Zafirov begun scientific work in 2002 by collecting dendrochronological
samples for his Master’s Thesis – “Impact of predisposing
factors on the decline of Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.)
forests in State Forestry “Borovec”. Scientific advisor
of the Master’s Thesis was Assoc. Prof. St. Mirchev from
the Department of Plant Protection. He also took part in
dendrochronological studies of Beech and Macedonian Pine
forests in Bulgaria.
From 2004 he studies the stressors of the wide spread Scots
pine plantations in Bulgaria as a part of PhD research.
The title of the PhD thesis is “Impact of the predisposing
and inciting factors on the decline of Scots pine (Pinus
sylvestris L.) plantations in South-western Bulgaria” and
the scientific advisor is Assoc. Prof. St. Mirchev.
